8TH GRADE ACTIVITIES
8th Grade Western BBQ
(Coming Soon!)

The 8th Grade Western BBQ is an annual December lunch-time event held just for 8th graders. This event coincides with the 8th grade American History curriculum. Teachers will discuss the time period's historical significance, and encourage students to dress in Western attire for the BBQ.
Community volunteer and former Muirlands parent, Milan Dimich, continues a family tradition started 20+ years ago by his father, of bringing in an industrial-sized BBQ grill for this event. With the help of Muirlands teachers and staff, he begins the prep and grilling at 5:00 a.m. on the morning of the BBQ, and serves up a delicious meal for the 8th grade students during their lunch, which is extended for this event.
Tickets for the BBQ are available at the school financial window during each lunch period the week of the event (Tuesday, December 15 through Thursday, December 17). A suggested donation of $5 to $10 to cover food and supplies is greatly appreciated and can also be contributed on line at www.muirlandsfoundation.org under the Events Tab, click on "8th Grade Events." Remaining funds will be used for the end-of-year 8th grade party.
Parent volunteer help is needed for this event. A Sign Up Genius link will be available in the e-Splash beginning in November to sign up for a shift to help set up, serve, and clean up. Parent help is much appreciated and it's fun!
8th Grade Bowling Party
June 2016
During the spring time, the 8th grade students have a bowling party. Tickets for this event are available for purchase at the financial window of the school office every morning and lunch recess during the week of the event. Ticket price is a suggested donation. This event is similar to a field trip - students will take buses to the bowling alley and be returned to the school late afternoon. The date for this event is not yet determined. Specific details will be sent out when available.
Parent volunteers are needed only for ticket sales the week of the event before school and during lunch recess.
8th Grade Promotion
End of the School Year
The 8th grade students will have a promotion ceremony on the last day of the school year at the La Jolla High School field. The ceremony is traditionally in the early morning so that parents can make the elementary school and high school promotions as well. It typically lasts for 1 1/2 hours.
